Over the years, there have been tremendous improvements in achieving global energy efficiency. But these efforts are belittling in the context of the growing world population and the scale of industrialization. Besides, the currently available technologies for attaining energy efficiency are not the most economical and effective modes to save and create new energy. Energy efficiency is the need of the hour and apart from the major benefit of curbing carbon emissions, renewable energy also offers lower production costs and conserves supplies and consumables. Hundreds of opportunities exist in the industrial sector for efficiency improvement using the standard technologies. They involve standard processes and low-risk technologies such as replacing outdated boilers, installing more efficient electrical equipment, utilizing waste heat etc. Initiating the Energy Efficiency Improvement drive will also provide India with some great financial benefits. Considering this the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change has approved the National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency. The Mission will enable about Rs. 75,000 Cr (approx. $15.6 billion) worth transactions in energy efficiency. The most innovative and challenging new initiative to be introduced under the Mission is the “Perform, Achieve and Trade” (PAT). Under this initiative, energy efficiency improvement targets will be assigned to the country’s most energy intensive industrial units, with the provision of allowing them to retain any energy efficiency improvements in excess of their target in the form of Energy Savings Certificates, called ESCerts. Units will also be allowed to purchase ESCerts to meet their assigned targets. To shed light on this and many other issues under the broad subject of wastage to conservation, we bring to you eminent speakers, specialists, consultants, manufacturers, financers, government bodies and certification agencies from various industries all on a single platform which is the Day1 at the “Green Industrial Evolution India ‘2010”. Key Take-away This summit will be a torchbearer for future knowledge series focusing on energy efficiency and its economic benefits. This will incorporate the most recent developments in the regulatory and policy frameworks and also focus on the latest research findings from the state and national laboratories. |
